A woman’s social media post has gone viral after she told her followers why she walked out on a date. Rachel Uzeta, from Los Angeles, wrote on Instagram that she quit the restaurant date and headed home in an Uber after the young man “took out his retainers at the table.” This caused a string of saliva to emerge from his mouth, which she said made her gag.
The 25-year-old model explained that her date gave her “no heads up” about what he intended to do. He then placed the retainer in a napkin and left it on the table. “To me, that just shows bad manners and no self-awareness,” she said. Ms. Uzeta told her date that she had to visit the restroom but did not return. She noted, however, that he did not give up on her and has continued to send her text messages.
Social media users replied expressing various opinions, with some telling the model she was too hard on her date and should not have left. Others, however, agreed with Uzeta and said they would have done the same thing. Some men questioned her move, saying it’s hard for them to know what to do, and they never seem able to get it right. Some of the reasons women have cited for escaping dates might add weight to their argument, but in some cases, few would blame the ladies for walking away.
For instance, one woman describes meeting a blind date who immediately told her she was “uglier” than he expected. She left. Another woman fled when her date took a Bible out of his pocket, while another walked away when he asked her to buy him a coffee.
It’s not only women who have second thoughts; men also share their experiences. One guy left a woman in a coffee bar when she took out her phone midway through the date, put it on speakerphone, and started insulting her co-workers. Another said his date spent the first twenty minutes on Instagram, and yet another walked out of a restaurant after hearing how his date spoke to the waiting staff.
