Vulnerable Democrat Announces Reelection Campaign

Democrats have many vulnerable seats in the upcoming and important 2024 congressional elections, and an incumbent member in one of those seats just announced this week her intention to run for re-election.

On Wednesday, Nevada Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen said she would be running for re-election in 2024. Her seat is considered one of the most vulnerable to being captured by Republicans, which could help to swing power from the liberals to the conservatives.

Rosen has often claimed that she’s a champion of the working class. In announcing her bid for re-election, she said there is still much more work for her to do in Congress. She also sent a warning to her supporters, saying it’s very possible that Republicans are going to put forth fierce competition in the election against her.

The Nevada senator made her re-election announcement via video that was posted to Twitter. She accompanied that video by writing:

“I ran for office to solve problems, fight for hardworking Nevada families, and make a real difference in people’s lives.

“Our work in the U.S. Senate is just getting started – that’s why I’m officially launching my re-election campaign today!”

In the last election cycle in November of 2022, the other senator from Nevada, Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto, was able to somehow stave off the stiff challenge brought before her by Republican Adam Laxalt. That victory was one of the main reasons why Democrats were actually able to slightly expand their slight majority in the upper chamber.

Rosen noted that Cortez Masto’s race was ultra-close, and news outlets needed a few days after polls closed to call the race in her favor. As Rosen commented:

“With so many important fights ahead, I need your support to win in battleground Nevada. Last year’s Senate race was decided by 7,928 votes, and it could be just as competitive in 2024.”

As a whole, Nevada is still considered one of the biggest battleground states in the country. That being said, Democrats are believed to have a slight edge in the state.

They were able to defend one seat in the Senate during the 2022 midterm elections – which Cortez Masto captured. Joe Biden also won the state during the 2020 presidential election, which was one of the big wins for him.

Also during the 2020 midterms, though, Republican Governor Joe Lombardo barely won, at least giving some hope to liberals that they can win a political race in Nevada.

Rosen is widely considered one of the most centrist members of the Democratic caucus in the Senate. She’s even bucked the lead of her party a few times before. She was one of a few Democratic senators – along with Cortez Masto to nix the rule that came out of the Biden administration called the Waters of the United States.

Biden did ultimately end up vetoing that measure, though.

With the breakdown in the Senate being 51 liberals to 49 conservatives, Nevada could prove to be one of the most important states in the 2024 election.
