
Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old supporter of the former president, tragically lost his life at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Comperatore was a dedicated volunteer firefighter who had been eagerly anticipating the former president’s speech. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was only 20 years old and took his life when he attempted to shoot Donald Trump.
Trump supporters quickly came to his assistance in the bleachers after Crooks began shooting from a rooftop 130 yards away.
The family of Comperatore shared the news of their loved one’s unexpected passing on Sunday while honoring his time as a dedicated volunteer firefighter. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro praised Comperatore for his heroic act of protecting his family by diving on top of them during the gunfire. Shapiro also mentioned that Corey was a dedicated father and a firefighter.
A doctor at Donald Trump’s rally shared the story of performing CPR on Comperatore after he was struck by a bullet meant for the former president. The man with blood splattered all over his white USA shirt recounted that someone nearby was yelling about someone being shot. He ran to his aid. But his injuries were massive.
Trump was injured by Crooks, who fired shots with his rifle from a roof 140 yards away from the MAGA event. The former president was observed clutching his ear and quickly ducking as screams from terrified onlookers filled the air.
Pictures from a yearbook surfaced on Sunday morning, revealing images of Crooks sporting glasses, braces, and an American flag t-shirt.
Bethel Park School District, where Crooks attended school until two years ago, has confirmed his graduation and expressed their commitment to fully cooperate with investigators. According to records, he made a donation to a group supporting President Joe Biden on the day of the inauguration in 2020 – Act Blue.
After the attack, Trump released a statement on Truth Social acknowledging that he had been hit by a bullet and expressed gratitude to the Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift response to the shooting incident.
Trump is expected to call for unity in his speech at the Republican National Convention.
