It seems as though not all Republican politicians are in favor of former President Donald Trump for the upcoming November Presidential Election, even though Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. Many mixed opinions have come from voters, and other politicians, following the many controversies throughout Trump’s previous Presidency, as well as his most recent which comes from Trump’s recent felony conviction on business fraud charges. During a recent CNN interview, Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox stated that he will not be voting for Donald Trump in this upcoming election.
During Cox’s recent CNN interview with host Kaitlin Collins, Governor Cox revealed that he would not vote for Trump in November but also stated he would “write somebody in” instead. While referring to Republican voters in his interview, Cox stated that the conservative voters chose a candidate for this election that was not Cox’s “first” political choice, nor his choice during the 2020 election. While Cox has stated that he will not be voting for Trump, the Utah Governor is not a fan of President Biden either. Cox further stated to Collins that he would not be voting for either candidate this election, hence why he is choosing to write his vote in.
As for the reason why Cox will not be voting for Trump, the Republican Governor specifically focused on the January 6th, 2021 Capitol Riots which many voters and politicians blamed Trump for inciting following his 2020 election loss. Although Cox is not voting for Trump this November, the Governor stated to Collins that he still wants to see the Republican party and its elected candidate succeed. The portion of Cox’s CNN interview where he stated he would not vote for Trump was clipped and uploaded to X, formerly known as Twitter, where the video received more than 430,000 views. Trump and Biden’s first debate was held on June 27th, where Trump’s winning odds greatly increased shortly after.
