Many names have been floated as possible running mates for former President Donald Trump.
But there’s one person who the former president’s eldest son would definitely oppose: Nikki Haley.
This week, Donald Trump Jr. said it was very unlikely that his father would tap Haley as his running mate, even though she served as the ambassador to the UN in his administration – a position she held from 2017 to 2018.
And if Trump decided Haley was a good pick, his son would make sure to step in to do something about it.
As Trump Jr. told Newsmax this week:
“I wouldn’t have her, and I would go to great lengths to make sure that that doesn’t appen. Nikki Haley wants never-ending wars. She’s a puppet of the establishment in Washington, D.C.
“She’s the new favorite candidate of the billionaire class because they want control – no different than academia and Harvard and using their billions to exercise influence.”
Over the last few weeks, Haley has made some big strides in primary polling for the GOP presidential race. A recent survey published by American Research Group, in fact, pointed out that she’s made it all the way to within four points of her former boss.
That’s quite the accomplishment, as Trump has for nearly two years now found himself way ahead of the other GOP candidates in just about every poll.
Because of this surge in popularity, murmurs have begun spreading that she could become Trump’s vice president should he win the GOP nomination, as expected. Even California Representative Kevin McCarthy, the former Speaker of the House, said as much recently.
All of this has caused Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ campaign to chastise Haley and Trump. They even created a new website called Trump-Nikki 2024.
CBS reported recently that Trump has turned to his confidants for their input on whether Haley would make a good vice president. But, apparently, that would not be a good idea to Trump Jr.
Haley herself has quashed those rumors a bit, saying she doesn’t “run for second.” She even criticized her former boss, saying “chaos and drama” are what follows him.
Haley’s rise in the polls isn’t something that has been lost on Trump Jr. He commented on it by saying:
“Ron DeSantis has proven that he doesn’t have what it takes to be on that stage. He’s embarrassed himself that way. She (Haley) is now the preferred candidate.”
Trump Jr. isn’t the only one who opposes Haley. Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Green posted earlier this month on the social media platform X:
“MAGA would revolt if Nikki Haley were to even be given an internship in Trump’s next administration.”
Yet, there are others that would support Haley as Trump’s vice president, including Lara Trump, who is married to the former president’s other adult son, Eric.
She said:
“Crazier things have happened. I would never say never with Donald J. Trump.”
