Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has come under fire from Republican senators for his decision to exclude Senator-elect Dave McCormick from attending Senate orientation. This move has sparked outrage among GOP members, who view it as a partisan attempt to obstruct the democratic process and deny McCormick the resources necessary to effectively prepare for his role as Pennsylvania’s newly elected senator.

And they view it that way because that’s exactly what it is…

The controversy stems from the closely contested Pennsylvania Senate race, where McCormick emerged victorious with 49.01% of the vote compared to incumbent Senator Bob Casey’s 48.43%. Despite the Associated Press calling the race in McCormick’s favor, Casey has refused to concede, citing over 100,000 votes still to be counted.

But even with those votes uncounted, there’s no way the Democrat can win. But facts have never gotten in the way of a good narrative for Democrats.

Republican Senators Rally Behind McCormick

Several prominent Republican senators have voiced their opposition to Schumer’s decision, accusing him of hypocrisy and undermining the electoral process. Senator Tom Cotton led the charge, condemning Schumer’s actions as “shameful” and “election-denying.”

“Senator-elect Dave McCormick won, Chuck Schumer’s shameful, election-denying decision to block McCormick from Senate orientation shows Schumer’s true character,” Sen. Tom Cotton said.

Senator Marco Rubio echoed these sentiments, questioning the Democrats’ commitment to accepting election outcomes. He highlighted the apparent contradiction between their past demands for leaders to respect election results and their current stance on the Pennsylvania race.

Escalating Tensions and Accusations of Democratic Hypocrisy

The situation has quickly escalated, with Republicans using strong language to criticize Schumer’s actions. Senator Eric Schmitt didn’t mince words, directly accusing Schumer of being an “election denier” and labeling his decision an “assault on our democracy.”

“Chuck is an ‘election denier’ and this is an ‘assault on our democracy,’ Am I doing this right @chuckschumer? Stop being a baby & take the L,” Sen. Eric Schmitt said.

In a show of solidarity with McCormick, Senator Mike Lee has offered to personally escort the senator-elect into the Capitol for orientation. This gesture underscores the GOP’s determination to ensure McCormick receives the same opportunities as other incoming senators, despite Schumer’s efforts to exclude him.

The hypocrisy is more obvious than ever, isn’t it?
