The actor and singer Justin Timberlake was taken into custody on Monday night for driving under the influence following an evening of drinking at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York.
Among Timberlake’s symptoms described in the arrest report submitted to the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court were “bloodshot and glassy” eyes, a pungent stench of alcohol on his breath, and an unsteady gait. During field sobriety tests, he struggled to do things like walk straight and stand on one leg.
Timberlake, according to insiders, has been increasing his alcohol intake. In more than one instance, he has stunk up tour rehearsals with the smell of alcohol on his breath.
After spending the night in custody, Timberlake was brought to the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court for his arraignment at 9:30 a.m. According to the police, Timberlake allegedly declined to take a breathalyzer test or sign a statement that may be used as evidence against him in court.
Justin got his New York driver’s license suspended for rejecting the breathalyzer test.
People in his inner circle say this should be a wake-up call for the singer, who allegedly turned to drink as a means of coping with Britney’s explosive accusations, which included the suggestion that she get an abortion in the early 2000s. He has been struggling since his March album, Everything I Thought It Was, but he didn’t perform as expected.
In addition to being charged with disobeying a stop sign and failing to stay in his lane, he was arraigned on one count of driving while intoxicated. He was freed without bond and is next due in court on July 26.
The pop artist will be performing two gigs in Chicago this week, followed by two nights at New York City’s Madison Square Garden the following week. His wife, Jessica Biel, often goes out with him to check up on him. Following the 2019 release of photos of Justin holding hands with Alisha, his Palmer co-star, in a bar in New Orleans, Justin stated that he had consumed “way too much” alcohol. A public apology followed, in which he admitted to having displayed a substantial lapse in judgment and maintained that nothing happened between him and his costar.
