Aid Sites Targeted as Gaza Toll Soars

At least 15 Palestinians were killed Friday near the Netzarim corridor after Israeli troops opened fire around a food distribution center, medics reported. Another 12 civilians were killed near the coastal road, where crowds had gathered for aid truck arrivals. These attacks, among the deadliest involving humanitarian zones in Gaza, raise the total number of civilians killed near aid sites to over 270 in just three weeks, according to Gaza’s health ministry.

Hospitals such as Al-Awda and Al-Aqsa in central Gaza were overwhelmed as victims poured in, and rescue crews struggled to evacuate the wounded due to ongoing Israeli shelling in nearby neighborhoods.

Aid Distribution Under Fire

Since its establishment in May, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has facilitated food distribution amid intense warfare. But its operations—backed by U.S. logistics—have been marred by repeated bloodshed. Human rights organizations accuse Israel of creating de facto “aid traps,” while the Israeli military has declined to comment on Friday’s fatalities.

A growing number of civilian deaths at food lines has intensified criticism of both Israel’s military strategy and the humanitarian architecture imposed by its allies.

Escalating War, Collapsing Infrastructure

Israel has also stepped up airstrikes across Gaza, including in Khan Younis, where evacuation orders were issued in Abassan, Bani Suhaila, and Khuza’a. As Israel intensifies pressure on Hamas strongholds, the civilian cost continues to skyrocket. Gaza’s health ministry reports more than 55,000 deaths since October 2023—most of them women and children.

The U.N. and humanitarian NGOs warn that continued strikes near food lines could violate international law. With hospitals incapacitated and access to medicine and food deteriorating, Gaza’s population faces worsening famine and displacement in what aid agencies call an “unprecedented humanitarian collapse.”
