Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has launched a scathing criticism of the Republican National Committee (RNC), responding to Lara Trump’s statement that every cent should be dedicated to electing Donald Trump as president.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” co-anchor Jonathan Karl asked Haley for her thoughts on Lara Trump’s comments. Haley did not hold back, accusing the former president of misusing party funds for personal legal battles and attempting to exert control over the party leadership.
“Haley emphasized on Sunday that Republicans nationwide need to see this as an alert. She pointed out that using $50 million in campaign funds to settle personal legal matters and attempts to secure the RNC’s endorsement as the de facto nominee underscores a fundamental principle: In America, we do not crown monarchs.”
Lara Trump’s pledge to support her father-in-law as co-chair of the RNC came just days after Donald Trump endorsed her, hailing her as an “extremely talented communicator dedicated to all that MAGA stands for.” Alongside her, North Carolina GOP Party Chair Michael Whatley was endorsed for the position of RNC chair.
Karl pressed Haley on her commitment to supporting Trump if he secures the Republican nomination. Haley said she does not believe Trump is the right person for the presidency.
“I don’t think he’s the right person at this time. The last thing on my mind is who I’m going to support,” Haley stated. “My focus is on winning this election, correcting the issues plaguing America, and uniting the country to move forward.”
The interview also touched on the recent death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny. Haley criticized Trump’s recent remarks, which seemed to suggest support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggressive actions.
Haley did not shy away from criticizing President Biden and congressional leaders either, blaming them for neglecting national security concerns. “Joe Biden has failed on that front, and it has emboldened our enemies,” she asserted.
Throughout the interview, Haley remained resolute in her commitment to the presidential race and defeating Trump.
“If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, he will not win. Every poll shows that. We will end up with President Kamala Harris,” Haley warned. “I will not allow that to happen. I am in this for the long haul, determined to see it through.”
