Authorities reported the girl met the perpetrator, a 28-year-old man named Alexander Materne, through a gaming platform. Materne’s interaction with the girl eventually led to him traveling from his home in St. Rose, Louisiana, to Tennessee to pick her up.
Following their interaction, Materne took the girl back to Louisiana, where they engaged in inappropriate actions. Upon realizing the girl’s actual age, Materne abandoned her in a tent in a wooded region of Tangipahoa Parish, La., leaving her with provisions. Materne then proceeded to visit Jennings, Louis., to spend Christmas with his family.
The Rescue Operation
The girl’s family employed initiative to track Materne’s whereabouts, which eventually involved law enforcement. Their efforts were paramount in identifying Materne’s movements to Jennings, leading to his cooperation with authorities. Once Materne was involved, he led the police to the girl’s location in the wooded area. Authorities reported that she was subsequently evaluated at a hospital.
“You can’t make this stuff up. It’s a Christmas miracle that she was found safe. This thing could’ve ended badly,” Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker said.
Materne now faces several charges, including contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, felony human trafficking, carnal knowledge, and aggravated kidnapping of a child. These charges highlight the seriousness of his actions and the resultant consequences.
