Soccer icon David Beckham has admitted he was nervous during the production of a Netflix documentary about his life. He said he “hated almost every moment.” The England star stated that it took time to come to terms with the show because he did not feel ready to reflect on his sporting career. However, some of his fears were allayed when he met director Fisher Stevens, whom he felt was the right person for the job.
Nevertheless, Beckham stated that it was difficult to revisit parts of his life, including personal issues surrounding his marriage and family and challenging times on the soccer pitch. In the end, however, he loved the result. “I didn’t go into the edit. I didn’t see any cuts,” he confirmed, adding that he gave complete artistic control to Mr. Stevens.
Born in London in 1975, Beckham signed with Britain’s iconic Manchester United as a trainee in 1991, helping to win the UK Football Association’s Youth Cup the following year. He made his Premier League debut for Manchester United in 1995 and went on to become one of its most successful players. In 2003, he relocated to Spain, where he played for Real Madrid, before moving to the United States in 2007 to play with LA Galaxy.
Mr. Beckham’s global fame was boosted by his marriage to one of the biggest pop stars of the 1990s—“Posh Spice” Victoria Adams. A native of Essex, Adams shot to worldwide stardom in 1994 as part of the Spice Girls. The all-female pop group emerged as part of the 1990s pop revival and debuted with “Wannabe” in 1996, which topped the charts in 37 countries. The group’s first album, Spice, arrived the same year and sold over 23 million copies.
The Spice Girls dominated the charts in the United States through 1996 and 1997 and sold almost 12 million albums.
David and Victoria Beckham formed one of the world’s richest and most glamorous couples and celebrated 25 years of marriage in 2024. They have four children and a combined net worth of around $500 million. The couple lives between London and Miami.
