Culprit Tracked DOWN – He WON’T Escape

A video that recently went viral showing a man throwing a malnourished dog down three flights of stairs. One LA resident was so offended, she took matters into her own hands and made it her mission to win justice for the little dog.

The video showed a man with a whimpering puppy at an apartment building in Koreatown on Oakwood Avenue. The man pitched over the railing down three flights of stairs. The dog scampered back some time later.

Other residents of the apartment complex—the neighbors of the man caught on video—said he was a generally unpleasant character who inspired fear throughout the building. They also said that this wasn’t the first time he’d tossed the dog down the stairs. He was caught by a neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera, and the neighbor published the video, which then went viral.

Dione Michael saw the video while on the Kris Kelly Foundation’s website—the foundation’s mission is to prevent and reduce animal abuse.  She was horrified. She took it upon herself to go to the apartment building and speak to the manager and other residents of the complex about the events depicted on the video. From her interviews, she learned that the police had been called, and had knocked on the man’s door, but he had not answered, so they left.

Then Dione saw a man who resembled the one in the video, and she initiated a livestream on the Kris Kelley web page calling on others to put pressure on the LAPD to arrest the suspect.

The man was located in an alley near the apartment and arrested. His apartment was then searched, and a 7 month-old puppy was found. The dog was subsequently treated for malnutrition and a broken leg. Surgery may be required to repair the leg.

Police have booked 27 year-old Joeboury Coleman for felony animal cruelty. His bail was set at zero dollars, according to Lillian Carranza, a captain with the LAPD.
