Comer Requests Biden Records From the Obama Era

Last week, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer requested that the National Archives and Records Administration turn over any emails from then-Vice President Biden related to Hunter Biden and his business associates, Real Clear Politics reported.

In a letter to the Archivist of the United States, Colleen Shogan, Comer requested special access to unredacted versions of all of the emails involving Biden, Hunter, Burisma, and Ukraine.

Comer is also requesting any communications and documents in which Joe Biden’s pseudonyms appear. Then-Vice President Biden set up government email accounts using the names Robert L. Peters, JRB Ware, and Robin Ware.

In a statement last Thursday, Chairman Comer alleged that contrary to Biden’s assertions of an “absolute wall” between his duties as vice president and the Biden family’s foreign business deals, the evidence shows access for the Biden family’s “influence peddling” was “wide open.”

The White House has long denied any wrongdoing on Joe Biden’s part, alternately arguing that the president “never discussed” Hunter’s foreign business deals and that Biden was “never in business” with his son.

But the emails Comer is requesting show that then-Vice President Biden’s office at minimum looped Hunter into his official schedule when it involved Ukraine.

An email from then-Vice President Biden’s personal assistant John Flynn sent on May 26, 2016, notes that Biden was scheduled to speak with former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Hunter Biden and his firm Rosemont Seneca were cc’d on the email.

Hunter was also cc’d on another email from June 2016 that included the vice president’s schedule for then-Ukrainian Prime Minister Groysman’s White House visit.

While the redacted versions of the emails requested have already been publicly released on the National Archives website under “Email Messages To and/or From Vice President Biden and Hunter Biden related to Burisma and Ukraine,” Chairman Comer is seeking access to the unredacted versions.

Additionally, Chairman Comer is seeking any documents or communications that include Hunter’s business associates Devon Archer and Eric Schwerin.
