President Joe Biden is infamous for his many verbal, and physical, gaffes during the length of his presidency. The Democratic nominee for the upcoming election has had many moments of cognitive dissonance publicly, such as mistaking parts of speeches for unrelated topics, mistaking important names for others, or even simply falling off a bike when he was not even pedaling it. Recently, Democrats in Washington have grown more and more concerned for President Biden as his mental state seems to continue to decline. Recently, President Biden spoke a a press conference in support of Ukraine, where his speech disastrously began by referring to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zeleksky as Russian President Vladamir Putin. Not long after, Biden delivered another pitiful gaffe by referring to his Vice President Kamala Harris as former President Donald Trump.
During a recent press conference at the NATO summit, Biden defended his ability to remain president despite his age and mental decline, and he then praised VP Kamala Harris. However, Biden referred to his VP as former President Donald Trump, who is seen as a sworn enemy by Biden and Harris. When asked by a reporter how he felt if Harris had to face Trump during the election if Biden were not physically able to, Biden alluded to the fact that he would not have chosen Harris as a VP if he did not think Harris was fit for the job, seemingly mixing the two’s names up. Opposite to his previous gaffe with Zelensky and Putin’s name, Biden was not able to correct himself for mistaking Harris for Trump, and seemingly moved on from the mistake.
Biden’s recent gaffes come at a crucial time for the president, whose Democratic colleagues in Washington are finally starting to realize that Biden may not be mentally qualified for another four-year term should he win the November election. The concern has grown following Trump and Biden’s debate on June 27th, 2024.
