A New Perspective on Law Enforcement
Lori Loughlin’s latest role as Lieutenant Bishop in the Prime Video series “On Call” marks a significant departure from her previous work and has profoundly impacted her view of law enforcement. The actress, along with her co-stars Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente, and Eriq La Salle, participated in ride-along with real police officers to prepare for their roles.
“It was really exciting and gave me a whole new appreciation for law enforcement,” Loughlin said.
The series, which follows rookie and veteran officers on patrol in Long Beach, California, uses bodycam, dash-camera, and cellphone footage to create a cinema verité effect, adding to the authenticity of the portrayal.
Transformation and Challenges
Loughlin’s role as Lieutenant Bishop required a significant transformation, both mentally and physically. The actress embraced the change, saying, “I was game for anything. Like when I first showed up, they were like, your highlights are gonna go, and I was like, fine.” This raw look, featuring no makeup and dark hair, was a stark contrast to her previous roles.
The physical demands of the role also surprised Loughlin. “I didn’t know I had it in me — to be that badass,” she admitted, reflecting on her portrayal of the tough police lieutenant.
A Journey of Redemption
This role marks Loughlin’s first major acting job since her involvement in the 2019 college admissions scandal. The actress and her husband pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, resulting in Loughlin serving two months in prison and paying a $150,000 fine. She also completed 150 hours of community service.
“Every day, we’re met with different obstacles. But, for me, it’s like that song says, ‘I get knocked down, but I get up again’,” Loughlin said.
The actress’s return to television has been gradual, with roles in “When Hope Calls,” “A Christmas Blessing,” and an appearance in “Curb Your Enthusiasm” preceding her starring role in “On Call.”
